UFFE RAVSNKOV, MD, PHD
Uffe Ravsnkov earned his medical degree in 1961 from the University of Copenhagen with an MD. From 1961-1967 he held various appointments at surgical, radiology, neurological, pediatric and medical departments in Denmark and Sweden. From 1968-79 he held various appointments at the Department of Nephrology, and the Department of Clinical Chemistry, University Hospital, Lund, Sweden; and from 1975-79 as an assistant professor at the Department of Nephrology. In 1973 he earned his PhD in internal medicine and nephrology at the University of Lund.
Dr Ravsnkov was in private practice from 1979-2000 a private practitioner, and has been an independent researcher. His awards include the Skrabanek Award in 1999, given by Trinity College of Dublin, Ireland for original contributions in the field of medical skepticism. In 2007 he received the Leo-Huss-Walin Prize for Independent Thinking in Natural Sciences and Medicine.
Dr Ravsnkov is a member of the International Science Oversight Board, and is the Director of THINCS, The International Network of Cholesterol Skeptics. His early research demonstrated that a common, perhaps the commonest, cause of kidney failure is exposure to toxic chemicals or drugs. His later research disproves the popular cholesterol hypothesis of cardiovascular disease.
